Spaying and Neutering

The warmer season is a good time for the abandoned cats and dogs to have their litters. We need to spay and neuter our pets to avoid the multiplying that is happening every year. Keeping our pets indoors when they are not yet fixed will help to eliminate unwanted pregnancies. Getting them spayed or neutered, will stop the problem altogether since they are no longer going into heat and will only want to stay close to home where they are most loved. "Many people have learned through relating to animals what it is to care for and accept responsibility for another being." - Richard H. Pitcairn, American Veterinarian, Pet Nutritionist and Author

Foster Homes Needed

Spring is once again upon us and there are cries of new kittens needing attention.  Having your cats spayed or neutered helps to avoid these babies being born in the wild.  Many people are noticing these animals and some are bringing them into their homes with hopes of our taking them right away.  In order for us to do so, we need more foster homes to help with the overflow of strays.  If you can spare the space for one of these unfortunates please call 692-3319 and leave your name, phone number, and request to be a foster parent.

I have a stray.....

Strays, strays, and more strays. We are asking if people could please call Pet Save and leave a message on our phone lines about any strays. We cannot accept any cats or dogs without first making some prior arrangements. They need to be properly processed and vaccinated first. We have over 300 cats in the system now and we are in desperate need of foster homes. We are all volunteers and we ask for your patience and to please wait for direct communications before bringing an animal to us at any of our locations. Thank you. All paws to you for your support.

Northern Dogs rescued after owner dies in fire

Pet Save has received 7 dogs from Cochrane in the summer of 2010. Their owner died in a fire. He had approximately 100 dogs. The trauma of the fire, having water bombers overhead to put out the fire, and not having an owner to protect them has caused the dogs to suffer some trauma. A Northern rescue group contacted Pet Save and other groups in Northern and Central Ontario for placement of these dogs. These dogs were in no way neglected or abused. Their owner loved them.  It just got to be too many. These wonderful dogs need loving homes to care for them. *Update - there are 2 of the Mile 26 dogs still in search of their forever homes - Abby, an independant girl who is a lil houdini and knows how to steal hearts!  And also Tommy, a ball of fun and loves to spend time with "his girlfriends" at the shelter - he is definitely a ladies man!  If you are interested in meeting, fostering or adopting either or both, please stop by the Lively shelter to meet these amazing dogs and learn about their story!

Litter Needed

Kitty cats, kitty cats galore! We have an abundance of stray and abandoned kittens and cats. We are in desperate need of clumping litter. We would be happy to accept your donation of litter at our pet shelter at 58 Jacobson opposite of Tim Horton's in Lively. Look for the big sign at the bottom of the hill!

Adult Volunteers Needed

Pet Save is looking for adult volunteers. We need people for the day time. If you have 4 hours or more that you can spare, we sure could use your help. Please call 692-3319 leave your name, number, and day available.  Thank you.

Come and Visit

We are always excited when people come out and visit us. There is always so much happening. These are the places where you can find our cats and dogs with the help of our wonderful volunteers. Our Pet Save shelter is at 58 Jacobson in Walden. Turn right, go over the train tracks, turn right at the first set of lights by Tim Horton's. At the stop sign you will see a white house facing you. Look to the left and you will see a very long driveway which comes up to a very large, light blue house, Pet Save Shelter. Every second month, we are up at Petsmart in the adoption centre. We will be there again in June and August. We have kittens and adult cats looking their cutest so a family will take them home forever. We will bring in a dog to show on the weekend. We have other great friends who help out with adoptions by showing our kittens. They are Pet Value at the four corners and Sue's Pet Depot at 900 Lasalle. Sometimes Sue will have some puppies in her window area. Thank you to ALL of our volunteers for making these animals their number one priority.

BIG THANK YOU

Special "THANK YOU" to some wonderful kids! Taryn started volunteering for Pet Save at the age of FIVE - making a difference for furry friends in our communitee from the very beginning! "Taryn's Treats" were for sale at the Pet Save Dessert Social this past weekend, selling adorable chocolate paws and cake pops - and raised $79 dollars by the end of the event! They sold out of all the treats! Thank YOU kids for helping to save a furry life - YOU are the FUTURE!
